Swap a device

Swap a device when its calibration is about to run out, or when something on it needs fixing. SiteHive sends the replacement; you mount it in the same spot, point it the same way, and hand the Monitoring Point over to it in SiteHive Enviro so the data record continues without a break. You are done when the new device shows a green light and the old one is on its way back.

When a swap happens

  • Calibration is due. Noise devices are calibrated for every deployment and the calibration lasts two years. The calibration countdown in the device's Details tab shows when it is due, and SiteHive sends a freshly calibrated device to replace it. See Assured calibration and certificates.

  • Something needs fixing. A device that will not stay online, a damaged windshield or camera, a cable that has failed. Work through If a device goes offline first; if the fault is in the device, email help@sitehive.com or your Regional Success Manager with the serial number and a photo.

Before you go to site

  • Have the replacement device with you, and know which Monitoring Point it is for.

  • Look up the current device's orientation in the Manage window (Device actions > Edit orientation) so you can match it, or rely on the context photo from the install.

On site

  1. Photograph the old device in place, showing which way the logo faces and how it is mounted.

  2. Disconnect power from the old device: the load cable, or the mains adapter.

  3. Unmount the old device and leave the bracket, stand, panel, battery and cables where they are.

  4. Mount the new device on the same bracket, in the same spot, with the logo facing the same direction. Flip out the antenna if it has one.

  5. Connect power and check the light in the SiteHive logo. Green means it is powered, connected and recording. Blue means no connection yet; give it a few minutes. No light means check the cables.

  6. Take a context photo of the new deployment.

In SiteHive Enviro

  1. Open the Dashboard, select the Monitoring Point and click Manage.

  2. On the old device's line, open Device actions and choose End monitoring. Set the end date and time to when you disconnected it, and save.

  3. From the side panel's Actions tab, start Easy Setup: select the new device, choose the same Monitoring Point (not a new one), set the start date and time, and confirm the orientation you matched on site.

  4. Check the Dashboard shows the new device at the point. Data appears within 15 minutes.

ℹ️ Because rules, media triggers, notes and reports attach to the Monitoring Point, not the device, nothing else needs changing. The graphs for that location simply continue with the new device.

Return the old device

Pack the old device in the box the replacement arrived in and send it back; your Regional Success Manager will arrange the return details. Add a Daily note tagged to the Monitoring Point recording the swap, the two serial numbers and the date.

Editor's note (remove before publishing): confirm the return process with the product team (packaging, label, who arranges the courier) and whether a swap should be recorded anywhere else.
