Check your data is arriving
A device can be online and still not be telling you what you think. This check takes a few minutes on the Dashboard: is data arriving on time, are there gaps, are the media triggers firing, and is the story of the day written down.
What a normal day looks like
SiteHive Hexanode devices report every 15 minutes, so the map shows fresh values at each Monitoring Point through the day and the graphs run without breaks.
The Media Timeline fills with photos and audio when a media trigger fires, and with the timelapse images a Weather device captures every 15 minutes.
Mini graphs in the side panel show the day's shape for each metric; click one to open the detailed graph.
Spot a gap
Open a detailed graph from the side panel and drag across a window to zoom. A flat gap means the device was offline or could not connect for that period. A device with a blue light keeps recording locally and backfills the gap once the signal returns, so check again later before you worry. A gap that does not fill is a power or signal problem: see If a device goes offline.
Are the media triggers firing?
Photos and 6 seconds of audio are captured whenever the noise level passes the media trigger for that Monitoring Point. The default is 75 dB LAmax. A noisy day with no media means the trigger is set too high for that location, or the device could not connect. Adjust it per point in the Manage window: Set up media triggers. What you get with each capture is in Enhanced media.
Does the data make sense?
Direction looks wrong. If Direction of Arrival points the wrong way, the device orientation is probably not set correctly: Orientate your device.
Weather explains it. Weather-affected periods are highlighted on noise and dust graphs, and the weather for the day sits at the bottom of the Graphs page.
A spike you cannot explain. Open the media at that time; a photo and the audio usually tell you what happened.
Write it down
Anything that explains the data (a delivery, a demolition, a device moved or swapped) belongs in a Daily note tagged to the Monitoring Point. Notes can be included in PDF reports, so the explanation travels with the numbers.
What's next
Graph your data (trends over a date range, by parameter, point or device)
Set up media triggers (change the level that captures photos and audio)
