Maintaining your site
Your devices are installed and data is flowing. From here, a short routine keeps it that way and catches the small things before they turn into gaps in a report. Most of it is done from your desk; the site walk can then focus on what the Dashboard tells you to go and look at.
Every week: device health, from the Dashboard
Once a week, in this order.
Check your devices are online. Open the Dashboard in the All aspects view: anything not reporting stands out on the map. Check battery and signal on anything that looks off. Check your devices are online
Sense check your data. Online is not the same as measuring what you think. Are there gaps? Are photos and audio being captured? Does the direction of arrival make sense? Are you still measuring in the right places? Sense check your data
Then the site walk
Head out with a list, not a hunch: the Dashboard has already told you which devices need attention. Start with those, then give the rest a quick pass while you are there.
Get a device back online. Read the light, clear the solar panel, check for new shade, sort out the signal. It covers power and connection, and most cases resolve without a call. If a device goes offline
Look at the panel and the mounting on every device, even the ones that looked fine from the Dashboard. It takes thirty seconds. A panel with grass coming up over it is still charging today and flat in a fortnight.
Every month: the software still matches the site
Once a month, or whenever the site changes stage.
Check your Monitoring Points. Do they match reality: the right device serial, the right location, no duplicates? Are new Monitoring Points fully configured, or were the media and telemetry settings skipped? Is anything ready to retire? Do the names still follow one convention, or has it drifted as people added Monitoring Points? Check your devices and monitoring points
Check your rules and notifications. Right alerts, right people, right thresholds. If people ignore alerts there are too many; if events are discovered after the fact there are too few. Not every rule needs events and notifications attached. Remove any recipient who has left the project. Check your rules and notifications
Check your site details and records. Site details correct: location, hours, key contacts. User list pruned. Daily notes up to date: RDOs (rostered days off), shutdowns, deliveries, device swaps, anything that explains a spike. And a glance at where each device sits in its calibration countdown. When something needs to change
Swap a device. When calibration is due, or a device needs fixing. SiteHive sends the replacement; you mount it in the same spot and the data record continues unbroken. Swap a device
Move or end the device. Move a device to another Monitoring Point, end monitoring where it is, or fix the dates afterwards. Move or end the device
